Here's a shortcut that lets you do all that in your head: If you temporarily add 3 to the subtractor, you get 197+3=200. Then you can do an easier subtraction of 700-200=500. Since you added 3 to the subtractor, you must add it to the result to get the true answer, which is 500+3=503. Hope you like it, Smarty Pants
